Spinology FAQ

What is Spinology?

The Spinology Adv Dip course in 1999, had full VETAB / Australian Government accreditation for Practitioners. Spinology is concerned with the function of the central nerve system in each and every person. The nervous system carries all the information sent from the brain to various muscles, tissues and organs, then relays all information back to the brain. The ability each person has to resist disease and recover from injuries, see and hear, for hand-eye co-ordination in work and play, to think clearly, remember, reason, solve problems, have balanced emotional responses, laugh and love, are but a few capacities and potentials each individual has inherent within. Spinology works with the relationship between the bones in the spinal column to ensure there is no interference to the nerve system that could inhibit the fullest expression of human potential in each person.

Why do we need Spinology?

Every day we are subjected to an ever-increasing variety of forces and stresses (physical, emotional and chemical) associated with daily living. These affect the individual bones of the spinal column, which are susceptible to change. The spinal bones create the appropriate environment for the nerve system (brain, spinal cord and nerve roots) to work. If this environment is altered, distorting the brain's ability to effectively communicate with the body, it is specifically called a spinal obtrusion. Spinal obtrusions must be corrected otherwise the body will fail to function at full capacity, robbing you of enjoying the best quality of life.

How can Spinology benefit me?

Through the correction of spinal obtrusions everyone can achieve a more productive and better quality of life. The brain is the "master controller", co-ordinating and regulating everything your body does. Development, growth, healing, heart pumping blood, breathing, secretion of insulin, immune system response, digestion, vision, hearing, reflexes, energy levels, memory and balance, are just a few examples. The body was designed to work at full capacity in these areas and many more, but it cannot if spinal obtrusions are present.

What is the role of the spine and nerve system and what happens when there is something wrong?

Spinal bones (vertebrae) protect the spinal cord. This cord is the pathway the body uses to control muscles, organs, glands and other body tissues. It has been shown that a loss of relationship between spinal vertebra, called a spinal obtrusion, interferes with  normal nerve impulses to and from the brain. This interference will disrupt the harmonious interaction and co-ordination of the body parts. All the organs and glands manufacture body chemicals. The balance of the hormones and chemistry within the body is thus disturbed when a spinal obtrusion is present. This disturbance in body chemistry affects every physical, mental and emotional aspect of life. Your body obviously loses its ability to function at its fullest potential with the presence of these spinal obtrusions.

Is Spinology like Chiropractic, Osteopathy or Physiotherapy?

While all of these professions may deal with the spinal column and its associated tissues at various times, there are more differences than similarities:
Spinologists do not manipulate the spinal column. All of the professions mentioned above perform manipulation at various times. Manipulation is forcing a joint, bone or muscle beyond what it is normally capable of. Spinologists work with the body to help it to make the changes that it is seeking to perform for itself, rather than forcing it to do anything that it does not want to do.

Spinology is a non-therapeutic profession. Health care professions, such as those listed above, have the common objective of diagnosing and treating disease. People very often attend these practitioners for pain relief and treatment of symptoms. Spinologists recognise that symptoms are totally subjective and are very poor indicators of the levels of body function. As a result, symptomatic interpretation and disease diagnosis are not utilised by the Spinologist. The Spinologists' view is that everyone is better off without spinal obtrusions and nerve system interference, regardless of whether they have a particular symptom or not.

Spinologists do not use comparative systems of analysis. All of the professions above use comparisons with a pre-established "norm" as a way of determining whether a person requires their assistance. For example, an x-ray may be taken and compared to a "normal". Any deviation from that normal is deemed to require the intervention of the practitioner. The fact is that comparisons with other people, the same person at a different time, or a different part of the same person are unrelated and often misleading. Therefore, Spinology assesses only the body's responses at the time of consultation.

Do I need to have x-rays?

No. The Spinologist's analysis of the spine is concerned with the muscles, which attach to the spine. Unlike bone, muscles cannot be seen on an x-ray.

Can internal changes in body chemistry, caused by spinal obtrusion, affect such mental factors as moods or creative ability?

Absolutely. Simply consider what physical, emotional and mental changes occur as a result of alcohol, medicines and drugs. Also look at how the female is affected during menopause to realize how important  body chemistry is to all bodily functions. Any external or internal changes in body chemistry always affects every aspect of life.

How do you know if you have a spinal obtrusion?

Unfortunately, most of the time you don’t. It’s true that some, but not all, spinal obtrusions may produce pain and muscle spasm. The only way to be absolutely sure is to have your spine checked by a Spinologist.

How do Spinologists identify spinal obtrusions?

Every living organism has an inherent organizational striving (or will) for adaptation and organization which always works to correct any incorrect situation. If cut, your body goes to work immediately to heal. Likewise, if you have a spinal obtrusion, your body will do everything in its power to correct it so the vital nerve communication network is disturbed to the least degree possible. The only way your body can change the relationship between vertebrae, or attempt correction of the obtrusion, is by using spinal muscles. The body will contract some fibres and loosen others to attempt the correction. If the muscles are not successfull in this function, the Spinologist can easily detect these working muscles. This information is what the Spinologist uses to determine exactly what the body is striving to do, and which vertebrae it wishes to re-position and in which direction it wishes to pull the bone.

How does a Spineologist correct these spinal obtrusions?

The exact direction the muscle fibres are working to correct the obtrusion is assessed by the Spinologist. A gentle specific force is applied into the muscle belly in the direction indicated so your body can adapt accordingly. You are then checked again following the application of force to see if your body has made a change.

Does Spinology hurt?

No, it is very gentle. Spinologists do not manipulate or adjust the spine, so there is no risk of damage to any tissues, or of pain occurring from the application of Sinology procedures. However, some people can experience a degree of discomfort, simply from the natural adaption process. Also if you have Arthritic tendencies, you may also experience some discomfort.

Is Spinology safe?

Of course. Spinologists are skilled professionals, meticulously trained in an intensive program. Sinology techniques do not involve any twisting or wrenching, which may cause damage to the ligaments that support the spine.

What specific conditions respond to Spinology?

Sinology is not a treatment for any specific condition as you may understand by now. It is true, of course, that one of the potentials which could be reduced by spinal obtrusions is your general health. A body which has a spinal obtrusion could never be as healthy as it could be without the obtrusion. The potential that a person has for resisting disease or recovering from disease or injury will be improved without the serious interference to the body’s nerve communication produced by spinal obtrusions. The bottom line is very simple. Everyone, sick or well is much better off without spinal obtrusions under any and all circumstances. To ensure the maximum potential your body is capable of see your Spinologist regularly.

What causes spinal obtrusions?

Any fall or accident could cause an obtrusion. This holds true for infants and adults. Poor posture, physical or emotional stress, birth trauma. Actually hundreds of incidences may cause an obtrusion.  Any force which your body can’t diffuse or adapt to, can cause them. In fact, almost everyone gets obtrusions at some time or another, often in childhood, but how many of us are taught to have our child’s spine checked for this serious nerve interference? Having your spine checked regularly for spinal obtrusions is a major factor in maintaining optimal body function and maximizing your performance in all areas of your life at all times.

Should I wait until I have an ache or pain or something wrong, then see the Spinologist?

NO, DEFINITELY NOT!   The human body has a multitude of agendas when it sets up aches, pains and symptoms.   They are an integral part of the healing process, so regardless of how you feel, there can still be problems on a nerve supply level, which limits your body’s overall performance and well being. Your body is the most valuable piece of equipment in your life, so if you regularly service your car & eat well, then why wouldn't you have your spine checked regularly.

I am fit and healthy, so do I need my spine checked?

People can appear to be physically fit but in reality functioning at a seriously reduced capacity on an organ – gland and body chemistry level.  You still need to see a Spinologist and have your central nerve system checked for any nerve interference if you wish to function at your optimum performance levels.

How is the profession structured?

Spinology is overseen internationally by the Registration and Professional Development Board of Spinology. All Spinologists trained by an accredited university programme are required to be registered through this body.
